Fabulous day in the Flint hills. Finished the 100-mile event in 6 hours and 48 minutes. No flats, no crashes, no rain and the Sanitas Cycles Node performed flawless all day.

It all starts again with an email and 2024 is no different. I got the email on the 25th of January late in the day welcoming me to the 2024 Unbound Gravel on June 1st in Emporia Kansas. This year I just signed up for the lottery like everyone else, rather than beg for a spot on the Road Bike Action Magazine team or ask for a media spot.
With the Unbound Flint hills 129 days away let the training begin. So, what is new in my program this year? I am still using the techniques that I’ve learned through Tom Danielson’s Cinch Program. I will use my trusted Garmin head unit and Rally Power pedals. My nutritional needs will be provided through Hammer Nutrition. What is completely new is the bike!
Over the last 4 years I’ve ridden a Basso Plata (2019), Giant Revolt Advanced one (2021, 2022) and a Alchemy Lykos AU in 2023 all to great success. This year I’m riding a Sanitas Cycles Node gravel. What so different is that this build is titanium and not carbon, I have not ridden a titanium bike of any kind since the mid 80’s when I had Serotta Ti Road bike.
The Node is in the process of being built and should be ready for the first shake down rides soon, I will keep you updated on the progress of my preparation as the days fade away towards my date with the Flint Hills in June.
